What Types of Adult Medical Services Does the Health Department Provide?

Carteret County Health Department provides a medical home to many county residents. Staff provides health education, preventive and primary medical care to adults with both acute and chronic illnesses like diabetes, elevated blood pressure and cholesterol. We also do pre-employment exams.

Our Nurse Practitioners diagnose, treat, evaluate, write prescriptions, order lab work and make referrals to other medical providers as needed.

How Do I Get an Appointment?

Call the Health Department at 252-728-8550 and ask to schedule an appointment. We use open access scheduling to provide you same day or next day appointment time. If you have been seen by another medical office (including the Emergency Room), it would be helpful to have those records along with a list of any medications you are taking.

What are Clinic Hours?

The Clinic schedules appointments Monday through Friday, 8:00 to 11:30 A. M. and 1:00 to 4:00 P. M. Our office is at 3820 A Bridges Street in Morehead City, NC.

How Do I Pay for Medical Services?

Some of the people who come to our clinic think that all Health Department services are free.  This is not true.  We do charge for most of the medical services we provide.

Carteret County Health Department accepts Medicaid and some private insurance coverage.  For those with no insurance, we charge for the services we provide according to your income and family size. There are charges for lab work, x-rays, and other diagnostic exams.  If we refer you to another medical provider, you will be billed for the services you receive at that provider.

How Do I Get Assistance with Prescription Drugs?

There is an Indigent Drug Program available through the Health Department to help eligible Health Department patients obtain certain prescription medications. After income guidelines are verified, the patient fills out enrollment papers and agrees to medical follow-up and monitoring.

The Health Department has arranged with Rx Access for qualified patients to obtain enrollment forms off the website www.rxaccess4u.com.
To qualify, our patients must meet income guidelines, spend at least $100 or more per month on brand name prescription drugs, and be without insurance prescription benefits.

What Language Assistance is Available?

The Health Department employs Spanish interpreters and has access to telephone interpretation services for many other languages.
